“I stress … the deep need each woman has to study the scriptures. We want our homes to be blessed with sister scriptorians—whether you are single or married, young or old, widowed or living in a family. After all, who has any greater need to ‘treasure up’ the truths of the gospel (on which they may call in their moments of need) than do women and mothers who do so much nurturing and teaching?”

President Spencer W. Kimball

1. I was born and raised in Northern Arizona, in a small town called Holbrook. I am the last of five daughters and three sons. Growing up in a small town was fun and wonderful. I felt needed.

2. When I was 21 years old I served a mission for the church in Melbourne, Australia. I married Dan Garrett when I returned home. We have 5 children. Our oldest is currently serving a mission in Taiwan.

3. After, I gave birth to my fifth child I began experiencing severe stomach pain. I had a severely impacted gall stone and the beginnings of some liver damage! Oddly enough, whenever I walked by the parsley in the vegetable section of the grocery store, my mouth would water! Having been pregnant five times - I knew to give in to these strange cravings! Each time I was at the store I would grab two or three bunches of parsley - even if I wasn't buying anything else! Once an air conditioning repairman was at my home and saw my plate of parsley and asked if I had a rabbit! I continued to have these cravings all the while I was having problems with my liver. When my liver healed my parsley craving went away. I later found out that parsley is good for the blood and extremely good for the problem I was experiencing! The Lord works in mysterious ways!

4. Surprisingly, in the last ten years, I have learned that I have a green thumb! One of my greatest loves, aside from my husband, are roses! I have 80 rose bushes in my back yard! I love having bushels of roses throughout my house and throughout my garden!

I know that God loves me because I can grow roses in the desert.

5. Our family has a beloved cat named "King Tut." We also have several beautiful, mallard ducks from Greenfield Park that have adopted our backyard. They come and eat, swim in our pool and then fly home each day.

6. I love singing, gardening, family activities, snow skiing, boating, and all my beloved sisters in Relief Society! You inspire me!
