“I stress … the deep need each woman has to study the scriptures. We want our homes to be blessed with sister scriptorians—whether you are single or married, young or old, widowed or living in a family. After all, who has any greater need to ‘treasure up’ the truths of the gospel (on which they may call in their moments of need) than do women and mothers who do so much nurturing and teaching?”

July VT Message

We would like to pass on this note from Debbie Mackinlay, our Stake Relief Society President regarding the July visting teaching message:

"As we touch the temple, the temple will touch us."

This quotation is in reference to a touching story told by Elder Matthew Cowley: "A grandfather took his small granddaughter on a birthday visit to the Salt Lake Temple grounds. on her birthday. With permission from the groundskeeper, they walked to the large doors of the temple. He suggested that she place her hand on the temple wall and then on the door, saying tenderly to her, 'Remember that this day you touched the temple. One day you will enter this door.' His special gift to his granddaughter was an appreciation for the House of the Lord." Ensign, May 2009, p. 103, Footnote 6.

Sharing this story with the sisters, might help them to see that the July VT message applies to every sister in the ward, and they can even involve their children, by bringing them to the temple grounds. We are so blessed to have a temple so close!
